Dental Crowns − Matthews NC

Crowns cover & support a tooth with a large filling when there isn’t enough tooth left. They can be used to attach a bridge, protect a weak tooth from breaking or restore one that’s already broken. A crown, also called a cap, is a good way to cover teeth that are discolored or badly shaped as well, or to cover a dental implant. A crown can make your tooth stronger & improve its appearance.

There are several types of crowns, including porcelain, ceramic, resin & metal alloys. Our practice typically uses ceramic crowns. The material used can be altered to match the color of your teeth. Our primary concern is keeping your smile bright & healthy, so ask the doctors at Matthews Dental Care which type is right for you!

Getting a crown takes two steps: First, we prepare the tooth by taking x-rays & pictures to check the surrounding bone & tissue & filing down the tooth to make room for the crown. Then the crown is made & cemented into place.

A crown acts the same way as a tooth, so after your crowns are placed, you should treat it the same way as well. Continue to brush & floss regularly & see your dentist for regular checkups!

Same-Day Crowns

With modern advances in dental technology, the days when it took three visits just to get a dental crown are long gone. Leading-edge dental equipment now makes 3-D scanning, computer modeling & automated milling available right in the dental office so there’s no more waiting for crowns to come in from a separate dental laboratory. Instead, custom crowns (& other dental restorations) can be crafted immediately, with no need for temporaries or multiple visits. With the precision of 3-D technology, these restorations are as accurate as they ever have been before. Offering same-day crowns is part of our dedication to making dental care as convenient & comfortable as possible for our patients.

The CEREC® System – Crowns in One Visit

With the CEREC system, getting a crown takes only one visit instead of the traditional three. After creating a scan of your mouth using advanced 3-D imaging, the CEREC machine custom-mills a matched crown out of natural ceramic that can be installed immediately, without having to wait for an offsite dental laboratory. Crowns in one visit means restoring your smile without taking extra time off from work or school.
